fuse boards

Having an up to date fuse board is essential for safety, as it monitors the load on each circuit and will trip to shut them off and protect your property and its occupants.

We only install the best quality fuse boards to ensure maximum safety and minimum downtime.

18th edition

regulations

Safety regulations have improved with new technologies; this has enabled electricians to make electrical installations much safer.

The new 18th edition wiring regulations implemented a number of changes which affect mains boards, making for safer and longer lasting electrical installations.

Metal Containment

Regulations changed because if the system develops a fault and a fire starts, the metal containment will retain the fire within the board preventing it from spreading.

Miniature Circuit Breakers

Otherwise known as fuses, these protective devices stop short circuits between live and neutral. They also stop overloading of the circuits which prevents fires, damage to electrical appliances and electric shocks.

RCD protection

Your new mains board will come with either one or two RCDs as standard. This protective device ensures metal sinks, pipes and metal socket fronts do not become live under fault

conditions.

Fuse Board FAQs

Can I move my main fuse board location?

Yes, your fuse boards can be moved but there are parameters that we must work within. The best thing to do is contact us to discuss your requirements. If you wanted your supply cable & meter to be moved, we can help you to arrange this with the DNO (Electricity North-West or Scottish Power etc.) and it can usually be completed within a couple of weeks.

Will I get a certificate?

Yes. All mains board replacements are tested, inspected and then notified to building control as part of the fixed price of replacement. Alongside building control notification, you will get either a 5 or 10 year certificate for the installation.

How much does a mains board cost to replace?

Mains board replacement starts at £299 + VAT. As standard we replace meter tails and main incoming earth (if required), this price includes testing and inspecting and building control notification. Prices vary depending upon house size, amount and type of circuit breakers required, quality of mains board and if you would like SPDs / AFFDs.

Can you install garage / shed fuse boards?

How long does it take to replace a fuse board?

Typically speaking, it takes 4 – 8 hours to replace, test, inspect and complete all of the paperwork for a mains board. For larger homes, this may take longer.
